Robinson, Avila Win Shoreline Track Titles for Morgan, Girls Tie for 2nd

Girls’ Indoor Track

The Morgan girls’ indoor track squad scored 66 points to finish tied for second place with North Branford at the Shoreline Conference Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 4.

Alyssa Robinson won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.45 seconds for the Huskies. Morgan’s 4x200 relay of Alyssa LeMay, MiKayla Mancini, Taylor Wyatt, and Courtney Viglione placed second (1:53.38); the 4x800 of Kate Daley, Madison Emmi, Allison Gardner, and Isabella Ranaudo was also runner-up (10:27.99); and the 1,600 sprint medley relay of LeMay, Julia Zirkelbach, Gardner, and Viglione finished second (4:34.20), as well.

Additionally, Daley came in second for the 3,200-meter run (12:06.40) and was third in the 1,600 (5:33.91), Toni Barron tossed to fourth in the shot put (29 feet-3.5 inches), Wyatt was fifth for the 55-meter dash (7.92), Maura Kelly finished sixth in the 600 (1:55.03); and the 4x400 relay of Emmi, Viglione, Erin Lindsay, and Gardner raced to fifth (4:35.68).

Boys’ Indoor Track

The Huskies came in fourth place with 57 points at last week’s Shoreline Conference Championship.

Juan Avila took the long jump title by reaching 20 feet-2 inches for Morgan. Bryce Thomas finished as the runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 6.92 seconds. The 4x800 grouping of Nate Hornyak, Anes Gadun, Burton Caldwell, and Southwood took second place (3:46.56); the 4x200 relay of Avila, Jhan Carlos Bermeo, Burton Caldwell, and Ryan Caldwell was third (1:38.79); the 4x800 of Brett Martin, Justin Mucha, Thomas Southwood, and Chase Lofgren came in fourth (9:04.36), and Anthony Coretti finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.61).

Boys’ Basketball

Morgan took a 64-37 defeat to Old Lyme last week, but then rebounded with a 66-50 win over Grasso Tech on Feb. 2 to up its mark to 3-9. Morgan then lost a tough one to Amistad on Feb. 3, 75-74.

Girls’ Basketball

The Huskies took a 53-39 loss to Old Lyme on Feb. 1 and then dropped a 79-34 contest versus to Bacon Academy the following day. Morgan is now 3-13 on the season.

Gymnastics

Haddam-Killingworth/Hale-Ray/Morgan had a meet at Flip-Flop Gymnastics in Deep River on Feb. 1. The team scored a 94.20 in the meet. Mercy scored a 135.5 and Valley Regional tallied a total of 118.55.
