The Westbrook girls’ basketball team clinched its spot in the Shoreline Conference Tournament, plus the Class S State Tournament by posting a 37-30 victory over Morgan on Jan. 27. The Knights are now 8-4 on the year.

Savannah Marshall had 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals for Westbrook in the win. Zoe Ehlert scored eight points and Kelly Donlan added five. Adara Bochanis scored two points and was strong on the boards by securing eight rebounds. Erin Metcalfe and Biance Ferrucci also played great defensive games to contribute to the win.

“I am pleased with the direction of our program. Westbrook hasn’t defeated Morgan in many years,” Head Coach Kelly Landino said. “Every program changes from year to year and has ups and downs. We are enjoying the ride up right now and working hard to make the most of this special team and this special time at Westbrook High School.”

The Knights improved to 10-1 for the season by posting wins over Valley Regional and Morgan in last week’s action.

On Jan. 26, Westbrook topped Valley 62-51. Liam Bell and Dave Amendola both recorded double-doubles as Bell scored 16 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and chipped in with six assists, while Amendola scored 10, recorded 10 boards, and added four assists. Cory Muckle added 16 points in the victory. It was a hard-fought game as Valley used a stingy man-to-man defense throughout. The Knights built a big lead, allowing them to survive a barrage of three-pointers throughout the fourth quarter by Valley.

Westbrook then defeated Morgan 70-43 on Jan. 27. Bell scored 18 points and had six assists, plus Muckle scored 15 and finished with four assists. Max Morris and Amendola combined for 13 rebounds as the Knights’ offense used good ball movement and featured a balanced attack to produce points, despite Morgan’s creative defense scheme.
