HK Boys’ Hoops Makes States; Figurelli Has a Nice All-Around Meet

Boys’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team notched its eighth win of the season to qualify for the State Tournament last week. The Cougars took a 68-65 loss to North Branford on Jan. 24, but then bounced back and punched their ticket to states with a 68-49 victory over Hale-Ray on Jan. 27. HK now stands with a record of 8-5 on the season.

Girls’ Basketball

HK went 1-1 in last week’s action and is now 3-11 this winter. The Cougars dropped a 62-33 contest to East Lyme on Jan. 26 and then came back the next night to post a 52-31 victory versus Hale-Ray.

Gymnastics

Haddam-Killingworth/Hale-Ray/Morgan recorded a score of 99.4 in a quad-meet on Jan. 26. The team dropped decisions versus Valley Regional (109.15), Mercy (130.65), and Hand (133.75).

Erin Figurelli scored a 9.05 on the vault, a 9.35 on bars, 9.0 on beam, and a 9.05 on the floor for an all-around score of 36.45 in the meet. Haley Smith netted an 8.7 on beam on her way to an all-around score of 34.6.

Ice Hockey

Lyman Hall/HK/Coginchaug had three games last week and won two of the trio to move to 5-6 for the year. On Jan. 25, the Trojans took a 7-1 defeat to Branford. Two days later, they blanked Shepaug-Litchfield-Thomaston-Nonnewaug by a 6-0 final. They then finished the week with a 6-1 win over Masuk on Jan. 28.
