Falivene Finishes Fourth in Shoreline Shuffle; Gymnastics Competes at Hand

Ben Falivene wrestled one match for Valley Regional when the Morgan wrestling team faced Southern Connecticut Conference opponent Notre Dame-West Haven in Clinton on Jan. 25. Falivene pinned Derrick Pommillis in the first round to grab his fifth victory of the year. Then on Jan. 28, Falivene wrestled at the Shoreline Shuffle at Branford High School, where he placed fourth by going 3-2.

At the Shoreline Shuffle, Falivene faced East Haven’s Fred Neps in the first round and pinned him in 30 seconds. In the quarterfinals, Falivene took on Nick Kortman of New Canaan and lost by pin at the 1:08 mark. That loss put Falivene in the consolation quarterfinals, where he pinned Dane Hanson of La Salle Academy from Providence, Rhode Island at 3:35. Falivene’s opponent for the consolation semis, Justin Fornancier, forfeited the match due to injury, putting Falivene in the consolation final against Halloran Campbell of Fairfield Prep. It was a great match, but Falivene lost 5-1. For the season, Falivene stands with an even record of 8-8.

Gymnastics

The Warriors’ gymnastics team had a quad-meet at the Polson Gymnastics Gym at Daniel Hand High School on Jan. 26. Valley Regional scored a total of 109.15 points to earn a win against Haddam-Killingworth/Hale-Ray/Morgan (99.4), while also taking defeats versus Hand (133.75) and Mercy (130.65).
