Girls’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook girls’ basketball team solidified its spots in both the Shoreline Conference and State tournaments by improving to 8-4 with a 45-42 victory versus Morgan on Jan. 20. The game was a father vs. daughter matchup as Old Saybrook is coached by Steve Woods and the Huskies are coached by his daughter Caitlin Woods.

It was a come-from-behind effort for Old Saybrook, which won the fourth quarter 15-8 to come away with the victory. Three players finished in double figures for the Rams. Mandy Beck led all scorers with 16 points, while Kristen King and Marissa Newell each scored 12 for the Rams in the win.

Boys’ Basketball

In its lone game this week, the Rams’ boys’ basketball team defeated Morgan by a 62-40 final on Jan. 20 to improve to 6-4 at the halfway point of the season.

Jake Tully led both teams in scoring with 27 points and he also added eight rebounds. Connel Henderson scored 19 to go with his eight assists, plus Shane Henderson added six points in victory for Old Saybrook, which trailed early, but had an 47-24 advantage for the final three quarters on its way to the win.
