Last week was a big one for the Westbrook boys’ basketball squad on both the team and individual fronts. Westbrook clinched its spot in the Class S State Tournament with a 58-40 victory versus Hale-Ray on Jan. 20, a night that saw Liam Bell reach the 1,000-point mark for his career.

Bell, a senior captain point guard, recorded a triple-double and nearly had a quadruple-double in the win. Bell scored 17 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had 10 assists, and snagged nine steals on his way to scoring career point No. 1,000. Cory Muckle scored 18 points, while Dave Amendola added 10 points for the Knights.

Previously, on Jan. 17, Westbrook edged Creed 54-50. It was a sluggish start for the Knights, but they turned it on in the fourth quarter to steal the victory. Bell recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds and he also had five assists for Westbrook. Muckle added 14 points, Vin Dyer and Amendola combined for 13 rebounds, and Matt Ossa contributed three assists for Head Coach Jeff Beeman’s club.
