Westbrook Boys’ Basketball Wins No. 6; Girls Lose Tough Road Contests

Boys’ Basketball

The Westbrook boys’ basketball team won a pair of home games last week, while improving to 6-1 in the process.

Against Portland on Jan. 10, the Knights were victorious 83-52. Dave Amendola and Liam Bell each recorded double-doubles in a game that Westbrook controlled from the start. Westbrook held a 38-18 advantage at the end of the first half and coasted through the second to seal the deal. Bell scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Amendola scored 14 and pulled down 10 boards for the Knights. Cory Muckle had 19 points, plus Phil Hartzell, Matt Ossa, Jack Hayes, and Max Morris combined to score 26 points. Senior Nick Perregaux recorded his first varsity points by going 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also grabbed three rebounds.

On Jan. 13, Westbrook defeated East Hampton 57-50. The Knights delivered East Hampton its first loss of the season as they played lights out in the second half, holding the Bellringers to 18 points. Westbrook, meanwhile, netted 35 in the final 16 minutes and finished the game on a 17-3 run. Bell scored 24, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out six assists in the win. Amendola added 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Girls’ Basketball

Westbrook dropped a pair of tough road games last week and moved to 5-3 for the year.

On Jan. 10, the Knights lost to Portland, 49-48, on a buzzer-beater. The game remained close the entire way with Westbrook leading by four going into the final quarter. However, Portland had the edge in the final frame to come away with the win. The Knights were led by Savannah Marshall’s 25 points and Kelly Donlan’s season-high 12 points.

Three days later, Westbrook took a 37-31 defeat at East Hampton.
