Morgan Girls’ Hoops Beats Creed for Second Victory; Track Competes at Shoreline Coaches Invite

Girls’ Basketball

The Huskies’ girls’ basketball team took a 56-43 loss to Valley Regional on Jan. 10, but then bounced back to grab its second win of the year by a 58-49 final at Creed on Jan. 13. Morgan finished week with a 68-25 loss to Notre Dame-Fairfield on Jan. 14. The Huskies are now 2-8 on the season.

Gymnastics

The Haddam-Killingworth/Hale-Ray/Morgan co-op gymnastics team had a meet against Valley Regional at Flip-Flop Gymnastics in Deep River last week. The team posted a score of 86.1, while Valley scored a 121.15 to get the victory.

Boys’ and Girls’ Indoor Track

The Huskies took part in the Shoreline Coaches Invitational on Jan. 14 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. The boys finished 15th out of 32 schools and the girls took 12th place.

In relays, the boys’ 4x200 tied for sixth place at 1:40.55 with Juan Avila, Tony Coretti, Ryan Caldwell, and Burton Caldwell; the girls’ 4x200 came in 10th (1:57.39) with Alyssa LeMay, Courtney Viglione, Mikayla Mancini, and Taylor Marnett; the girls’ 4x800 was fourth in 10:47.25 behind Allison Gardner, Madison Emmi, Issy Renaudo, and Kate Daley; the boys’ 1,600 sprint medley relay (SMR) of Ryan Caldwell, Nate Hornyak, Burton Caldwell, Thomas Southwood claimed fourth (3:58.33); the girls’ SMR of LeMay, Julia Zirkelbach, Viglione, and Allison Gardner was eighth (4:44.52); the boys’ 4x400 of Gadun, Nate Hornyak, Burton Caldwell, and Ryan Caldwell placed also eighth (3:50.02); and the girls’ 4x400 featuring Madison Emmi, Viglione, Gardner, and Zirkelbach finished 12th at 4:41.64.

In solo events, Avila finished as runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet-10 inches. Also, Coretti was 10th in the 55 hurdles (8.96), plus Anes Gadun finished 14th (9.29); Bryce Thomas finished 19th in the 55-meter dash (7.05); Issy Ranaudo raced to 21st in the 1,000-meter run (3:34.85); Maura Kelly was 26th for the 600 (2:01.20), while Erin Lindsay (30th, 2:03.88) and Olivia McCray (2:09.07) followed; and Daley finished third in the 3,200 (11:51.29) and fifth in the 1,600 (5:33.63).
