Boys’ Basketball

The North Haven boys’ basketball team recently began its second season with Head Coach Justin Falcon and the Indians came flying out of the gates by claiming victory in their first two games. North Haven tipped off the year by posting a 78-68 win at Law on Dec. 20 and then beat Branford 53-47 in its opening contest of the North Haven Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27.

North Haven trailed Law 27-19 after the first quarter and was down 47-37 at halftime, but outscored Law 19-2 in the third quarter to take a seven-point lead into the fourth. The Indians won the final frame 22-19 and went on to the 78-68 victory. Senior Preston Young shot 9-of-15 for 21 points to lead the Indians. Sophomore Jamorea Hooks was 6-of-8 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, on his way to scoring 17 points. Seniors Jack Steinman (9), Mike Gagliardi (9), and Anthony Beretta (7) rounded out the scoring column for North Haven. Young and Gagliardi added 10 rebounds apiece with Gagliardi also grabbing three steals. Hooks handed out four assists to aid the Indians.

The Branford game was close throughout as North Haven led 10-9 after one and was up 27-23 at the half. The Indians took a 39-35 advantage into the fourth quarter and held off the Hornets for the 53-47 victory. Young scored 14 points, Steinman had 12, and Tom Myjak scored 10 points for North Haven. Hooks added eight points and Jarrod Sancho had six.

Due to the realignment of the divisions in the SCC, North Haven no longer plays in the Oronoque Division. The Indians are now in the Housatonic Division with Hillhouse, Hamden, Hand, and Lyman Hall.
