Then in the Class S bracket, Westbrook posted a 93-60 win over HMTCA and a 77-70 victory versus Canton to make the quarterfinal round. The Knights then took a hard-fought loss to Danbury to finish at 17-8 on the year.

estbrook’s captains were senior Brad Cates, plus juniors Liam Bell and Cory Muckle. Muckle provided the highlight of the season when he sank a 70-foot shot at the buzzer to give the Knights a 62-59 victory at Hyde on Jan. 19.

Girls’ Basketball

The Knights’ girls’ basketball team saw a successful season with first-year Head Coach Kelly Landino on the sidelines.

Landino, who had played for the University of Hartford, guided the Knights to 14 victories, including two in the Class S State Tournament. Westbrook defeated HMTCA 75-32 and Amistad 46-32 to reach the Class S quarters, where the Knights lost to Kolbe Cathedral to finish at 14-10. Westbrook also qualified for the Shoreline Conference Tournament and lost to Coginchaug in the quarterfinals.

Freshman point guard Savannah Marshall earned All-Shoreline Conference Second Team honors for the Knights.

Westbrook finished seventh at the Shoreline Conference Championship and were led by second-place finishes from junior Jay Donlan in the shot put, plus senior captain Turner Davis in the high jump. T

hen at the Class S State Championship, Davis recorded a fifth-place finish in the high jump, while Donlan took eighth in the shot put for the Knights.

Girls’ Indoor Track

The Knights came in ninth place at the Shoreline Conference Championship this winter.

At the meet, Westbrook’s best finish came from Danyelle Engles, who placed second in the shot put. Also for the Knights, Tyjah Childs took fourth place in the 55-meter dash at the Shoreline meet.
