2016 Guilford American Legion Baseball Year in Review

The summer of 2016 was a sizzling one for the Post 48 American Legion baseball program as Guilford’s Senior squad returned to the State Tournament. Guilford’s Junior Legion team finished the year with four victories.

Senior Legion

Led by Head Coach Michael Yates, the Guilford Senior Legion baseball team earned a State Tournament bid by virtue of a recording a third-place finish in Zone 3 with a record of 12-12 this summer. Post 48 then took a 1-0 loss to Hamden on July 16 in the single elimination portion of the Southern Division Sectionals part of the tournament. Guilford finished the year with an overall record of 12-13.

For the summer, Post 48 swept its season series against Madison by winning all four games to go with three victories versus Meriden, plus two apiece against East Haddam, Middletown, and Wallingford.

Junior Legion

Head Coach Jon Reinecke and Post 48 Senior Legion baseball squad finished with a mark of 4-20 for the summer.

Guilford defeated East Haddam 6-3 on June 15 and later upended East Haddam by a 5-1 score on July 15. Post 48 also collected a 3-2 triumph over Wallingford on July 3 and a 5-0 win against Madison on July 8.
