Valley Girls’ Hoops Edged by Coginchaug in Opener, 55-54

The Valley Regional girls’ basketball team hosted Shoreline Conference opponent Coginchaug for the first game of the winter season on Dec. 13. The Warriors rallied from a 10-point deficit after the first quarter and played a back-and-forth game against the Blue Devils, but Coginchaug came away with a 55-54 victory to start the year. Sophomore Alexis Finnerty scored 20 points to lead Valley Regional, which enters its second season with Head Coach Geoff Konstan.

The Warriors were slated to play East Hampton on Dec. 17, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather. Valley will be back in action on Friday. Dec. 23, when the team travels to Old Saybrook for another Shoreline Conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Old Saybrook.
