Both T-Birds’ Basketball Teams Begin with Wins

Boys’ Basketball

The North Branford boys’ basketball team had the three-ball working when it topped Hale-Ray 49-40 in its season opener on Dec. 17. The T-Birds nailed seven three-pointers in the win as three players finished in double figures. Brett Lequire scored a game-high 19 points in victory, while Jimmy Augur finished with 14, and Jake Haeckel added 10.

Girls’ Basketball

The Courtney Brinton era began with a win as the Thunderbirds’ girls’ basketball squad defeated Haddam-Killingworth 34-32 in the team’s first game with its new head coach, who takes over for Chris Webster. Kelly Oliver scored a game-high 12 points in the come-from-behind victory for North Branford, which won the fourth quarter by a seven-point margin to steal the victory on the road.
