The East Haven Makos underwater rugby team recently sent six local players to join the United States national squad. The athletes traveled with the USA U-21 underwater rugby team when it went to Sandefjord, Norway to participate in the Juniors European Championship.

The participants later visited office of East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Maturo, Jr., to share in this historical event as it marked the first time that the Underwater Society of America sent a team whose athletes were all less than age 21 to represent the United States. The local athletes who were on the national team were Daniela Bedoya, Laura Bedoya, and Kervin Franco from East Haven, along with North Branford’s Lesly Rojas and Eryk Kicak, plus Bryan Guiterrez of New Haven. The team was coached by Jose Bedoya.
