Branford Book & Card Moves into First Place


Branford Book & Card earned a 72-55 victory versus V.F. McNeil to improve to 6-2 and move into first place in the Branford Recreation Department Men's Basketball League.

Book & Card was led to victory by a 24-point effort from Dustin Ceccolini, plus a season-high 18 points from Jeff Mahon, who hit six three-point field goals. Chris McCarthy added 14 points, while Brad Olt had 11 for Book & Card. V.F. McNeil (0-8) received a season-high 24 points from Josh Mahon, as well as 16 points by Jeff Allen.

Book & Card moved ahead of G & G Earth Materials in the standings after G & G dropped an 80-79 nail-biter to Warner Construction in Week 8 play. Tucker Esborn put on a shooting demonstration by netting 21 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to propel Warner to the win. Co-captain Ryan Adinolfi scored 17 points and Bob Warner added 11 for the winning club. For G & G, Dylan Palluzzi converted five threes on his way to scoring 25 points. Mike Nicoletti (20), Bradley Roth (16), and Paul Votto (12) rounded out the scoring column. This game put both G & G and Warner at 5-3 for the season.

Trap Runner also stands in a three-way tie for second place at 5-3 following a 61-55 victory versus W.S. Clancy. Co-captain Joel Daniels scored 17 points with Mike Conner scoring 16 to lead Trap Runner. W.S. Clancy (3-5) was guided by Rob Howard, who scored 18 points. Dan McGowan and Mark Lehane added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Previously, in Week 7 action. Branford Book & Card defeated Trap Runner 62-43. Co-captain Ceccolini scored 21 points, while Andrew Johnson hit four three-points and finished with 16 points for Book & Card. Grant Breedlove chipped in with 12 points. For Trap Runner, Gordon Hill scored 16 points and Daniels added 12.

Also, G & G Earth Materials posted a 64-59 triumph over V.F. McNeil. After going scoreless in the first half, Palluzzi, who was the second overall pick in this year's draft, exploded for 27 points in the second half to lead G & G to the win. Roth scored 14 points, while Nicoletti had 13 points for G & G. V.F. McNeil's leading scorers were Dan Litevich and Jeff Allen with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Josh Mahon had 11 points.

In another game, W.S. Clancy was a 59-47 winner against Warner Construction. Rob Howard poured in 25 points with co-captain Dan McGowan scoring 15 for W.S. Clancy. John McGowan also contributed to the win by scoring 11 points. For Warner, Esborn scored 19 points and Rich Cordeiro had 17 points.
