North Haven Swimming Represents at State Open

The North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team was represented by a few athletes at last week’s State Open Championship that took place at Yale University on Nov. 19. The Indians’ swimmers combined to score 48 points for North Haven, putting the team in 26th place out of 50 schools

Angela Gambardella capped her great freshman year by placing 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.35) and finishing 17th for the 200 individual medley (2:12.47). Gambardella had previously earned All-SCC and All-State honors in both events with her performances at the conference and state championships, respectively.

North Haven saw one other individual compete at the State Open in senior Molly Duffy, who finished 22nd in the 100 breaststroke at 1:10.50.

Head Coach Martha Phelan’s club also had two relays swim at the Open. The Indians’ 200 medley relay of senior Lauren Spencer, Gambardella, junior Jasmine Nguy, and junior Laura Borrelli came in 17th place with a time of 1:55.13. The 400 freestyle relay of Borrelli, senior Callyn Priebe, Spencer, and Gambardella finished 22nd at 3:47.46. The group had previously set a school record in the event by swimming 3:44.95 at the Class M State Championship.
