HK Football Loses to Valley-Old Lyme; VonFeldt 3rd in Backstroke at Open

The Haddam-Killingworth football team took a 31-0 loss to Valley Regional-Old Lyme in the battle for the Principal’s Cup in Deep River on Nov. 22. Alex Segaline had 79 rushing yards on 23 carries for the Cougars, who finished the year at 4-6 overall.

The Warriors opened up a 14-0 lead thanks to a 50-yard touchdown pass and a 12-yard TD pass. Valley-Old Lyme added a 26-yard field goal to go up 17-0 at the break.

Valley-Old Lyme then tacked on a 7-yard touchdown rush in the third, followed by 62-yard scoring scamper in the fourth to win and finish at 9-1.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

HK finished in 28th place with 42 points at the State Open Championship on Nov. 19 at Yale University.

Caitlyn VonFeldt took third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.02 seconds a few days after winning the event at the Class S State Championship. She also finished 23rd in the 100 freestyle at 54.52. Additionally, the Cougars’ 200 medley relay team of VonFeldt, Lauren D’Amico, Jordan Clemente, and Cassandra Garrelts came in 24th place (1:58.16); while the 400 free relay finished 19th (3:45.02) behind Garrelts, Clemente, D’Amico, and VonFeldt.
