Yellowjackets’ Volleyball Loses in SCCs; Cross Country Runs at States

Volleyball

The Yellowjackets’ volleyball team lost its last two games of the regular season and was then defeated in the first round of the SCC Tournament last week.

On Oct. 24, East Haven took a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) loss to Hand. Kylie Schlottman had 13 kills, 10 digs, and four aces, while Summer Onorato had 12 kills for the Yellowajckets. Amber Ciscone had 11 digs and Isabella Ragaini finished with 22 assists.

East Haven wrapped up the regular season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-15) loss to Hale-Ray on Oct. 26 to finish at 8-12. Mikayla Raffone had three digs, Ragaini had 10 assists, and Samantha Miranda finished with four kills.

East Haven earned the No. 11 seed in the SCC Tournament and dropped a 3-1 (25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23) decision to No. 6 Law in the opening round. Kylie Schlottman had 10 kills and six digs, plus Julia SanGiovanni finished with four kills and three blocks to lead the Yellowjackets.

Boys’ Cross Country

East Haven finished in 21st place at the Class MM State Championship at Wickham Park on Oct. 29.

The best performer for the Easties was Austin Rivera as his time of 19:41 was good for 93rd place overall. Other racers for the Yellowjackets included Alphone DeLucia (137th, 21:40); Jake Ferrara (138th, 22:06); Anthony Mauro (151st, 22:51); Stephen Martindale (156th, 23:27); Giro Esposito (161st, 24:19); and Joseph Castellano (162nd, 25:19).

Girls’ Cross Country

The Yellowjackets took 21st place at the Class M State Championship last week.

The top runner for East Haven was Katie Maffeo, who placed 108th with a time of 25:52. Other runners included Rebecca Flynn (140th, 29:56); Rebecca Albert (141st, 30:46); Deborah Carpanzano (144th, 31:48); and Paige Maffeo (145th, 31:49).

Girls’ Soccer

East Haven finished the season at 0-13-3 after earning a tie and taking a defeat last week.

On Oct. 24, East Haven tied Branford 2-2 on Senior Night. It was a come-from-behind effort for the Yellowjackets after they allowed the first two goals of the game. Haley Montesanto scored twice, while Jordan Kikosicki and Ali Szewc had an assist apiece. Molly Mazzucco and Gianna Sullo combined to make six saves in goal.

On Oct. 26, East Haven lost by a 1-0 final against North Branford. Sullo made six saves in the game.

Boys’ Soccer

East Haven’s season came to an end with a record of 1-14-1 last week.

On Oct. 26, the Yellowjackets lost at Cheshire 3-0.

Three days later, East Haven took a 4-1 loss to Law in its final game. Doug Comesanas made 13 saves for the Yellowjackets.
