The Westbrook field hockey team won its final two games of the regular season to wrap it up with a 14-1-1 overall record.

On Oct. 24, the Knights topped Somers 7-0 as Alexa Mulvihill scored five goals and pitched in with an assist. Avery Bauman and Biance Ferrucci also had a goal each, while Carolyn Bauman added one assist. Lauren Wright and Ingrid Bauman combined for the shutout in goal as Westbrook forced the Somers’ keeper to make 30 saves.

On Oct. 28, Westbrook defeated Killingly 5-0. Mulvihill recorded a hat trick, plus Zoe Ehlert and Avery Bauman each scored once. Ehlert, Carolyn Bauman, and Lauren Kane all had an assist in the shutout victory. Mulvihill’s performance on the week gave her 28 goals for the year, adding to her school record for scores in a season.

Westbrook will play North Branford in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament at Indian River Complex in Clinton at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. With a victory, the Knights would play the winner of Valley Regional and Haddam-Killingworth for the title at the same site at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Girls’ Soccer

Westbrook wrapped up its season with a 4-0 win over Amistad on Oct. 25 to finish at 5-10-1. The record is the best for the program in the last seven years, plus the Knights scored 34 goals and allowed 36, which are the best numbers in both categories through that span, as well. Erin Metcalfe, Hayden Davis, Alyssa Esposito, and Maya Asby scored for Westbrook in the victory.

“We cut the goals in half from last year. That was my first goal for the program. We focused a lot on defense this year,” first-year Head Coach Rob McConville said. “Now that we have built a solid foundation, we can focus on competing at the next level. The program made major strides in the right direction this season and it is all due to the hard work from the girls. I’m very proud of them.”
