The Indians’ girls’ cross country squad swept a tri-meet with Hand and Foran on Oct. 13 at Guilford’s East River Preserve to claim the SCC Hammonasset Division title. The Indians bested Hand by a final of 22-33 and defeated the Lions 16-42.

With the victories, Guilford finished with a record of 10-2 on the dual-meet campaign, took back the division title that it last won two years ago, and captured its 10th crown overall since 2004, when the league went to a four-division format.

For the race, Meredith Bloss took first place in a time of 19:01, edging out teammate Clara Wiesler (19:22). Elsewhere, Ellie Wiesler was fifth (20:09), Emma Bonz followed closely behind in sixth (also in 20:09), Tessa Fridell was ninth (20:10), and Jess Bohan finished 14th (21:00).

The Indians next prepare for the SCC Championship on Thursday, Oct. 20 at East Shore Park at 1:40 p.m. as Guilford seeks its first conference title since 2012. Then the Indians will try their hand at states with the Class MM State Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Wickham Park in East Hartford at 1:30 p.m. Guilford’s last state title came in 2011 as the final crown in a string of eight-straight Class MM championships.
