Guilford’s Volleyball and Soccer Squads Post Divisional Wins

Volleyball

The Guilford volleyball team defeated West Haven and lost to Branford last week to put its mark at 9-6 this season.

First up, the Indians earned a 3-1 (25-20, 25-10, 23-25, 25-18) victory versus West Haven to improve to 4-2 in SCC Oronoque Division action. Cia Mirrione had 18 kills, Amanda King added eight kills and 14 digs, plus Caroline Wienkamp dished out 25 assists.

The Indians were then swept by Branford 3-0 (21-25, 19-25, 23-25) on Oct. 14. Mirrione led with 14 kills and 11 digs, Jill Wirth added 20 assists, Olivia Simmons had six digs.

Boys’ Soccer

The Indians picked up a 4-1 win over Cross on Oct. 11, routed East Haven 7-1 two days later, and then capped off the week with a 3-0 shutout of non-conference squad East Lyme on Oct. 15. Guilford is now 5-3-4 overall and sports a record of 4-1-1 in Oronoque Division play.

Girls’ Soccer

Guilford took only its third loss of the season by a 3-2 final against West Haven on Oct. 10. The Indians finished the week at 8-3-1 overall, plus a mark of 5-1 in Hammonasset Division action, with a 4-1 victory over Foran on Oct. 14.

Against Foran, Chloe Shaw scored at 38:30 in the first half, while in the second half, Paige White (53:58), Andrea Basilicato (69:00), and Jacqui Guerra (71:52) notched the goals for the Indians. All four of those athletes also recorded an assist as Guilford outshot the Lions by a wide 21-4 margin.

Field Hockey

Guilford moved to 10-2 after a 9-0 rout of Lyman Hall on Oct. 11 and a 2-1 victory versus on Oct. 14. Goals for the week included two for Olivia Clarke, Julia Ellman, Bryce Makula, and Mallory Peters. One goal each came from Teddi Stanley, Meg Reynolds, Marietta DeJulio, and Maddie Costantino. Goalie Cami Makula recorded the shutout against the Trojans and made two saves versus Mercy.
