East Haven Volleyball Splits Pair

Volleyball

The Yellowjackets’ volleyball squad split its two matches last week to stand at 6-9 this season.

On Oct. 11, East Haven defeated Sacred Heart Academy by a 3-2 final with set scores of 27-29, 28-26, 25-16, 18-25, 15-11. Kylie Schlottman led the way in the win with 19 kills, 11 digs, and three aces. Summer Onorato finished with 11 kills, 15 digs, and five aces. Amber Ciscone totaled a team-best 23 digs, while Jess Stettinger had 11. Also, Isabella Ragaini produced 13 digs and 32 assists for East Haven.

On Oct. 14, the Yellowjackets were defeated 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 26-24) by Amity. Onorato had a team-high 13 kills, Ciscone had 15 digs, and Ragaini finished with 21 assists.

Boys’ Soccer

On Oct. 14, East Haven was defeated 7-1 by Guilford to drop to 1-9-1 for the season. Omar Lucero scored the goal for the Yellowjackets early in the first half of the defeat. Douglas Comesanas recorded 12 saves in goal for East Haven.

Girls’ Soccer

The Yellowjackets lost both of their matchups last week and moved to 0-10-2 for the year.

On Oct. 11, Hand defeated East Haven 6-0. Molly Mazzucco and Gianna Sullo combined to make 19 saves in net for the Yellowjackets.

On Oct. 14, East Haven lost to Sheehan 4-1. Haley Montesanto scored East Haven’s goal and Mazzucco made nine saves.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The Yellowjackets took a pair of defeats last week and are 0-10 on the season. Hamden defeated East Haven-Cross 92-72 on Oct. 11 and, three days later, the Yellowjackets lost to Sheehan 87-71.

In the Hamden meet, the 400 freestyle relay team of Gina DiVerniero, Ellyn DiVerniero, Syreena Melendez, and Laura Rosado won with a time of 4:29.09. Individually, Rosado won the 200 individual medley in 2:19.39 and the 500 free at 5:28.17. Melendez won the 200 free at 2:24.10 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:27.19, plus Gina DiVerniero took the 100 butterfly at 1:14.91.

Against Sheehan, East Haven won a pair of relays. The 200 medley relay team of Ellyn DiVerniero, Melendez, Gina GiVerniero, and Rosado won in 2:16.58, and the 400 free relay team of Gina DiVerniero, Jennyfer Jarrin, Melendez, and Rosado was victorious at 4:14.91. Individually, Rosado won the 200 IM at 2:19 and the 500 free in 5:28.59, while Gina DiVerniero took first the 100 fly at 1:14.17.
