Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country

On Oct. 5, both Haddam-Killingworth teams hosted the Cougar Invitational and competed against Old Saybrook, Valley Regional, Morgan, North Branford, and Old Lyme. Each of the Cougars’ squads were undefeated on the afternoon to stay unbeaten and improve their dual-meet records to 10-0.

The boys’ team once again ran a controlled, tactical race as a pack up front to outdistance themselves from the field. HK defeated Old Saybrook by a score of 20-41, while also posting victories versus Old Lyme (15-50), Morgan (15-50), Valley (15-49), and North Branford (15-50). Finishing together in places two through four with the same time of 18:18 for the 3.1-mile course were juniors Andrew Meredith, Daniel Schumann, and Jonah Spector. Right behind them at 18:22 were junior Conor McCabe and senior tri-captain Doug Brown.

Meanwhile, the HK girls’ team defeated Old Saybrook (22-34), Valley (16-47), Morgan (15-50), Old Lyme (18-37), and North Branford (15-50). The Cougars were led by the duo of juniors Kelsey D’Amico and Lexie Bouthillier, who were the top two placers in race with their times of 21:01 on the 3.1-mile course. Right on their heels were senior tri-captain Lizzie Early in fourth (21:14) and junior Julie Kelly at sixth (21:37). Junior Grace Lindell (13th, 22:22), junior Maggie Fisher (16th, 22:54), and sophomore Emma Anziano (20th, 23:39) rounded out the Cougars’ varsity competitors.

Boys’ Soccer

Haddam-Killingworth moved to 5-3 on the year after a 3-2 victory against Coginchaug on Oct. 4 and a 3-0 shutout of Westbrook on Oct. 6.

Girls’ Soccer

HK notched its second win of the year with a 2-0 final over Westbrook on Oct. 7. Taylor Schuler and Veronica Chrzanowski scored the team’s goals with Schuler getting an assist. Meghan O’Brien made 10 saves as the Cougars outshot the Knights 25-14.

Field Hockey

HK took its second loss of the season by a 2-1 final against North Branford on Oct. 4. The Cougars then blanked Old Saybrook 6-0 on Oct. 7 to own an impressive record of 7-2 for the season.
