Field Hockey

The Valley Regional field hockey team sports an overall record of 5-3 with a mark of 3-3 in Shoreline Conference action following a split of last week’s two conference contests. On Oct. 5, Valley earned a 5-1 victory against Morgan at the Indian River Complex in Clinton. Two days later, the Warriors took a 4-0 loss at North Branford.

Head Coach Beth McCabe Powers saw her team bring a 4-0 lead to halftime in the Morgan victory. Francesca Daniels scored the Warriors’ first goal just 5:16 into the contest for a quick 1-0 advantage. Then with 16:05 to play in the first half, Daniels struck again with an assist from fellow senior captain Maria Pittsinger. Just over a minute later, Daniels assisted Caitlin Smith for a goal and the Warriors were up 3-0. Valley made it 4-0 when Daniels scored another from Pittsinger with 2:44 to play in the half. Daniels netted her fourth goal 5:11 into the second half for a 5-0 Warriors’ advantage. Logan Burdick (1 save) and Mia Cost (7 saves) split time in net for Valley Regional.

Volleyball

The Warriors’ volleyball team raised its record to 9-2 on the season by earning 3-0 home victory over Creed at Valley Regional High School on Oct. 7. Valley swept Creed with set scores of 25-5, 25-12, 25-5.

One of the standouts for the Warriors in the victory was Alex Figuenick, who registered 21 aces on the evening. Emily McLaughlin had seven kills, while Jessica Paholski added six kills with four aces for Valley. Electra Cassells picked up three aces and three kills in the win.

Head Coach Kathy Scott said that Rhyan Nedobity had a couple of nice service runs and added that Maddie Just and Heidi Clark stepped in to spark the Warriors on defense. Maddie Millard and Hannah Clark shared the setting duties for Valley during the third set.

“We only had one match this week, which has allowed us to work on some things to prep for the second half of our regular season,” Coach Scott said.

Girls’ Soccer

The Warriors’ girls’ soccer squad had just one game last week and took a 4-0 loss at Old Lyme on Oct. 5. With the loss, Valley Regional now has an overall record of 5-3-1 with a mark of 5-2 in the Shoreline Conference.
