Yellowjackets’ Swim Team Keeps Improving; Soccer Squads Lose Two

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The East Haven-Cross co-op girls’ swim team is 0-6 in its meets this season, but the Yellowjackets continue to get better as the campaign progresses.

On Sept. 27, Lyman Hall topped the Easties 132-50. Laura Rosado was victorious in a pair of individual events. In the 200 individual medley, she won with a time of 2:14.97. Rosado later placed first in the 500 freestyle at 5:32.53. In the relays, the 400 freestyle team of Syreena Melendez, Gina DiVerniero, Jennyfer Jarrin, and Rosado won with a time of 4:24.97.

On Sept. 30, East Haven dropped a home match to Foran by an 88-70 count. Rosado was victorious in the 200 IM and the 500 free with times of 2:19.23 and 5:31.39, respectively. Ellyn DiVerniero won the 100 backstroke at 1:25.88 and Melendez was victorious in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:23.37. The 400 freestyle relay team of Gina DiVerniero, Ellyn DiVerniero, Melendez, and Rosado won behind a time of 4:22.70.

Girls’ Soccer

The Easties took defeats to Cheshire and Branford last week and are now 0-6-2.

On Sept. 28, Cheshire topped East Haven 5-0. East Haven put three shots on target against the Rams. Molly Mazzucco and Ashlie Rivera combined to make 10 saves in net for the Yellowjackets.

The next day, East Haven lost to Branford 3-0. Mazzucco made seven stops in the loss, while Branford’s Nina Grabowiecki also had seven saves to record the shutout.

Boys’ Soccer

The Yellowjackets were shut out in both of their games last week to drop to 1-6-1 for the season.

On Sept. 26, East Haven lost to Notre Dame-West Haven by a 4-0 score. Doug Comesanas made 15 saves in goal, including eight in the first half, to keep the score knotted at 0-0 through the opening frame. East Haven put three shots on the Green Knights’ goalie.

On Sept. 30, Law topped East Haven 1-0. Comesanas made 12 saves for the Yellowjackets.
