The Rams’ football team improved to 2-1 by defeating Pequot Conference opponent SMSA-University-Classical by a 39-14 final at Old Saybrook High School on Oct. 1. The Rams scored 13 points in each of the first two quarters to hold a 26-6 halftime lead on their way to the victory.

Chase Cook ran 25 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Rams to the win. Cook scored on TD runs of 2 and 23 yards to help Old Saybrook-Westbrook lead 13-0 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Vincent Dyer took one home from 25 yards out, after which Cook scored on a 12-yard run for the 26-6 advantage.

The second half saw more of the same as Cook’s 55-yard scoring scamper had the Rams ahead 33-6 through three. Joe Finnegan’s 2-yard TD rush in the fourth ended the scoring for Head Coach Mike Marone’s squad.

In addition to Cook’s big game on the ground, Dyer ran seven times for 95 yards and a score and reeled in a 33-yard reception from Victor Pascoe, who also threw a 31-yard pass to Cook.

After a week off, the Rams travel to Durham to face another Pequot team in Coginchaug (1-3). The game starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
