Branford Grabs the Gold in Field Hockey Tourney at Nutmeg Games


Branford field hockey claimed a gold medal by defeating Granby 4-0 in the tournament final at the Nutmeg Games. Branford field hockey recently competed in the Nutmeg State Games 2016 Field Hockey 7 vs. 7 Tournament and took home the gold medal in the 18-U High School Division by shutting out Simsbury 3-0 in the semifinals and then earning a 4-0 victory versus Granby in the championship contest. Carol Frye scored five goals for Branford in the tournament, while LanLe Crotty scored four and Brittany Bunbanlu and Caitlin Baker chipped in with two apiece. Brianna Shaw and Carly Shea both scored key goals in the gold medal game. Branford’s stout defense was led by Sabrina Torcellini, Alanna Grimm, Leah Pendl-Robinson, and goalie Keira Integlia. Branford’s roster also featured Jessica Amarante, Karly King, Autumn McHenry, Gianna Messina, Mary Nwagboli, and Molly Zaffino. The team was coached by Pete Frye and Ellenmary Frye.
