Flip-Flop Gymnastics Competes at Connecticut State Championships

Flip-Flop Gymnastics recently saw three of its teams compete at the Connecticut State Championships and two of its athletes compete at the Region 6 Championships.

The Platinum team was led by Sarah Cartelli of Essex, who came in fourth place for her high score of 9.375 on floor, as well as ninth on vault and eighth all-around with a 35.075. Mikayla Bruton of Deep River came in fifth for her event high of 9.325 on vault, ninth on bars, eighth on floor, and totaled a 33.425 all-around.

The Xcel Gold team was led by Grace McLaughlin of Old Saybrook, who scored 9s on every event with a high score of 9.575 for first place on vault, as well as third on bars, second on floor, and second all-around with a 37.0 to qualify for Region 6 Championships. Sierra Cazassa of East Haddam also scored 9s on all events with a high score of 9.3 on balance beam for fourth place, as well as fifth on vault, sixth on bars, second on floor, and fourth all-around with a 36.8. Anna Donato of Old Lyme earned a high of 9.2 on both vault and floor, earning third and first place, respectively, sixth on bars, and finished with a 36.35 for fifth place all-around. Jenna Palko of Old Saybrook came in first place for her event high of 9.5 on bars, as well as fourth on beam and fifth all-around with a score of 36.275. Genevieve Geller of Madison earned second place for her event high of 9.225 on floor, as well as fourth on bars and beam, fifth on vault, and third all-around with a 36.125. Sarah Tozier of East Haddam had a high score of 9.25 on both vault and bars, earning third and fifth place, respectively, and came in eighth all-around with a 35.75.

Paige Thomas of Ivoryton led the Xcel Silver team with 9s on all events while taking first place for her high score of 9.7 on balance beam, fourth on vault, and second on bars, floor, and all-around with a 37.675 to qualify for the Region 6 Championships. Brianna Minervino of Higganum also scored four 9s with a high of 9.5 for second on beam, sixth on floor, and second on vault, bars, and all-around with a score of 37.0. Cate Coppes of Old Saybrook came in second place for her event high of 9.55 on beam, first on uneven bars, fifth on floor, and totaled a 36.6 for third place all-around. Grace Jacaruso of Essex earned second place for her high score of 9.35 on bars, as well as second on floor and fifth all-around with a 36.275. Hailey Young of Ivoryton earned fourth place for her high score of 9.25 on bars, fourth on beam, sixth on vault, seventh on floor, and seventh all-around with a 36.0. Kelsey Luccaro of Deep River took seventh place for her event high of 9.1 on bars, fifth on vault and floor, and seventh all-around with a 35.725. Isabella Giuliano of Deep River scored a high of 9.0 on balance beam and finished with an all-around of 35.225. Katrina Tozier of East Haddam earned eighth place for her high score of 9.075 on bars and totaled a 34.825 all-around. Kelly Walsh of Old Saybrook scored an event high of 9.05 on balance beam and finished with a 34.625 all-around. Reagan Furgueson of Centerbrook came in fifth for her high of 9.275 on beam and finished with a 34.625 all-around. Jamie Pullin of Chester was only able to compete on one event and scored an 8.8 on uneven bars.

Paige Thomas of Xcel Silver and Grace McLaughlin of Xcel Gold qualified and went on to compete in the Region 6 Championships. Thomas scored 9s on every event, earned second place for her high score of 9.4 on bars, and finished with a 36.65 all-around. McLaughlin scored 9s on three out of four events, placed third for her high of 9.4 on vault, first on balance beam, and second all-around with a 36.975. F
