HK Baseball Takes 5-2 Loss to Cromwell in Conference Quarters; Softball Gets 12th Win

Baseball

The top-seeded Haddam-Killingworth baseball team hosted No. 8 Cromwell in the quarterfinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament on May 23 and took a 5-2 loss. Next up for the 16-5 Cougars is the Class M State Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, May 31.

Softball

HK finished the regular season at 12-7 after winning a 7-6, 11-inning thriller over Northwestern on May 23. Cassie Harlow drove home pinch runner Tori Rich with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning.

HK rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score at 5. Each team scored a single run in the ninth inning, but the Cougars got a single from pinch hitter Brooke LaTouche and a walk to Olivia Whitehead to set the stage for a Harlow single that scored Rich to win the game. Hannah Theriault went the distance for the Cougars, striking out eight and picking up her seventh win of the season.

In the Shoreline Conference Tournament, the Cougars travel to No. 4 Hale-Ray as the No. 5 seed on Thursday, May 26. A win there and then another in the semifinals the next day would put HK in the final on May 28 at 1 p.m. at Old Lyme.

The Cougars also begin the Class M State Tournament on Tuesday, May 31.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Cougars took a 10-9 defeat to Old Saybrook in a Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals on May 24. Next up for the Cougars (7-9) is the Class S State Tournament, beginning on Tuesday, May 31.

Boys’ Lacrosse

HK dropped a 19-6 decision to Old Lyme in a Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals on May 24. The Cougars (9-8) will next play in the Class S State Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, June 1.

Boys’ Golf

HK moved to 11-10 (5-5 in conference play) with a 170-185 loss to Morgan on May 23. Alex Segaline shot a 40 for his round and he was joined by Tom Fulner (42), Oliver Artus (48), and Johnny Maio (55).
