Branford native Izzy Bagi was recently selected as a First Team defender by the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), in addition to being named to the Division II/III All-New England Team as voted on by the New England Hockey Writers Association, as a result of her excellent junior season for the women’s hockey team at the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. This is the second time Bagi has made All-New England in her collegiate career, having previously earned the accolade in her freshman season. Bagi and her fellow honorees will be recognized at a banquet on Wednesday, April 13 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Massachusetts. Bagi also recently learned that she’s one of three student-athletes on her squad who was named to the NEHC’s All-Academic Team.

Bagi led Holy Cross in scoring this winter by netting 10 goals and dishing out 22 assists for a total of 32 points, which was the most among defenders in the NEHC. She also tied for the league lead in power play points with 13. Bagi was named the NEHC Player of the Week and GoHolyCross.com’s Crusader of the Week on Feb. 8.

Bagi, who also plays tennis at Holy Cross, had eight goals with 11 assists for the hockey squad as a sophomore last year. In her freshman season, she tallied four goals to go with 11 assists and played her way to spots on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East All-Rookie Team, the ECAC East All-Conference Second Team, and the Division II/III All-New England Team.

Prior to attending college, Bagi was three-year member of the varsity ice hockey team at the Gunnery School in Washington, Connecticut and was named both team MVP and MVP of the 2013 New England Playoffs when her squad won the New England Division 2 championship that year. Bagi also played club hockey with the Connecticut Polar Bears and helped that team won a national title in 2010.
