Flip-Flop Gymnastics Competes at Kinetic Kids Meet


Flip-Flop Gymnastics Level 4 team won first place at the Kinetic Kids Invitational. All of Flip-Flop Gymnastics Junior Olympic and Xcel teams recently competed at the Kinetic Kids Invitational held at Pomperaug High School in Southbury.

Leah Frantz of Deep River led the Level 4s to a first-place team victory with 9s on every event, a high of 9.5 on balance beam, and a first-place finish with a 37.35 all-around. Allyson Viens of Higganum earned third place for her high score of 9.4 on beam and second all-around with a 36.2. Sarah Cole of Chester had an event high of 9.35 on both beam and floor and tied Viens for second place all-around. Erin Ward of Chester came in fifth for her high beam score of 9.3 and finished third all-around with a 35.65. Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones of Killingworth earned first place for her high of 9.1 on bars and came in third all-around with a 35.35. Emily Smith of Clinton had an event high of 8.6 on bars for second place and finished fifth all-around with a 34.05. Chase Conrad of Ivoryton received a high score of 8.6 on floor ad totaled a 31.5 all-around. Violet Lavezzoli of Deep River earned a high of 8.0 on both vault and floor and finished with a 31.4 all-around.

The Xcel Platinum team was made up of Emily Brucker and Mikayla Bruton, both of Deep River. Brucker earned third place on both vault and beam with a high of 9.0 on beam and finished fourth all-around with a 33.75. Bruton earned third on vault for her high score of 8.95, as well as fourth on bars, and finished with a 32.975 all-around.

Xcel Gold also fared well, earning fourth place in the team competition. Grace McLaughlin of Old Saybrook earned fourth place for her event high of 9.4 on bars, as well as fifth place all-around with a 35.9. Sierra Cazassa of East Haddam came in first place for her high of 9.225 on bars, as well as first place all-around with a 35.875. Jenna Palko of Old Saybrook came in third place for her high score on bars of 9.525 and finished third all-around with a 36.475. Katie Schumman, also of Old Saybrook, earned a high of 8.95 on vault and floor, for first and third place, respectively, and finished sixth all-around with a 34.8.

The Xcel Silvers had a great meet and finished third in the team competition. Paige Thomas of Ivoryton earned 9s on every event with a high of 9.45 for second on vault, as well as second all-around with a 37.35. Grace Jacaruso of Essex came in first for her event high of 9.6 on floor, as well as first all-around with a 37.05. Brianna Minervino of Higganum came in second place for her high score of 9.4 on floor and sixth all-around with a 36.3. Kelsey Lucaro of Deep River earned third place for her event high of 9.3 on bars and fifth for her all-around score of 36.0. Reagan Furgueson of Centerbrook came in fifth for her high score of 9.25 on floor and finished eighth all-around with a 35.85. Anna Monaco of Essex came in third place for her event high of 9.1 on vault, as well as fifth all-around with a 35.85. Cate Coppes of Old Saybrook had an event high of 9.1 on floor exercise and finished seventh all-around with a 35.6. Isabella Giuliano earned an event high of 9.1 on bars, beam, and floor for sixth place on bars and beam and came in eighth all-around with a 35.6. Jamie Pulin of Chester scored an event high of 9.1 on floor and finished eighth all-around with a 35.3.

The Level 6 team was led by Ella Gibson of Essex, who earned an event high of 9.3 on both beam and floor and finished with an all-around score of 35.4. Chloe Cahill of Lyme had a high score of 8.8 on uneven bars and totaled a 34.675 all-around. Kate Ryan of East Haddam scored an event high of 9.0 on floor and finished with a 33.75 all-around. Haley Smith of Clinton earned an event high of 8.525 on floor and an all-around score of 32.825. Alexandra Batts of Lyme had a high of 8.7 on vault and totaled a 31.65 all-around.

Mia Lawrence of East Haddam led the Level 5 team with an all-around score of 35.175 and an event high of 9.3 on vault. Maria Denya of Old Lyme posted an event high of 8.95 on balance beam and finished with a 34.675 all-around. Brianna Livingston of Killingworth had a high of 8.35 on floor and totaled an all-around of 32.15. Lily O’Neil of Essex earned a high of 8.7 on both vault and floor and finished with a 31.8 all-around.

The Level 3 team was led by Brooklyn Libera of East Haddam with a high score of 9.45 for first place on vault and a second place all-around of 35.6. Corina Pagliuco of Ivoryton posted an event high of 9.1 for first on floor exercise and finished second place with a 34.9 all-around. Julie Hartt of Deep River earned fifth place for her high score 9.15 on vault and came in seventh all-around with a 33.45. Emerson McAraw of Old Lyme had solid scores throughout with a high of 8.5 on floor and totaled a 32.0 all-around.

Following the Kinetic Kids Invitational, Flip-Flop’s Level 4 team finished out its 2016 season with the Connecticut State Championships on February 20 at Killingly High School. Sarah Cole of Chester came in first place for her event high of 9.4 on floor and third all-around with a 35.825. Leah Frantz of Deep River earned third for her high score of 9.0 on uneven bars and finished seventh all-around with a 35.3. Allyson Viens of Higganum had an event high of 9.175 on beam for second place and finished 10th all-around with a 34.55. Ella Stevens of Old Saybrook came in fifth place for her event high of 8.8 on bars and finished with an all-around score of 34.125. Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones of Killingworth came in eighth place for her high score of 8.75 on floor and finished ninth all-around with a 34.0. Emily Smith of Clinton earned a high of 8.75 on beam and totaled a 3.725 all-around. Erin Ward of Chester had solid scores throughout with a high score of 8.35 on balance beam and an all-around of 33.025. Chase Conrad of Ivoryton earned an event high of 8.775 on beam and finished with a 30.55 all-around.
