Warriors’ freshman Annie Cooper hustles for the ball in a game against Westbrook earlier this season. At 6-12, Valley needs to win its final two regular season contests to reach the State Tournament.

Girls’ Basketball

Valley girls’ hoops lost both of it contests last week to Cromwell (69-41) and North Branford (60-48). The Warriors are now 6-12 this season and need to win their last two regular season games to earn a spot in the Class S State Tournament.

First up for Head Coach Geoff Konstan’s squad was a home date with undefeated Cromwell (19-0) where the Warriors played hard, but couldn’t match one of the top teams in the state. Cromwell got out to large first-half lead and cruised from there to the 69-41 victory.

Next was a road trip to North Branford, a team Valley had beaten at home by 66-62 final on Jan. 22. This time, the Thunderbirds got the better of the Warriors, 60-48. It was a slow start that hurt Valley as it was outscored 19-8 in the first quarter. The Warriors battled back to take the second frame 18-16 and trailed by nine at the break. In the third quarter, North Branford came out strong to put the game away as Valley was down 51-32 heading to the fourth. The Warriors finished strong and they scored 16, while holding North Branford to just nine points in the final period, yet it wasn’t enough and Valley dropped to 6-12 on the season.
