Two Hornets’ Cheerleaders Make All-SCC; Boys’ Swimming Loses to Notre Dame


Alex Karosas swam on the victorious 200 medley relay when the Branford-Guilford boys’ swimming and diving team dropped a 96-89 decision to Notre Dame-West Haven last week. The Hornets are 4-2 this year.

Cheerleading

Branford competed in the Co-ed Division at the SCC Championship in North Haven on Feb. 6 and scored 67.6 points to place second behind defending champion Hand (79) in the three-team field. Shelton won the All-Girl Division for the third-straight year. Amanda Acquarulo and Alyssa Cariglio earned All-SCC honors for Head Coach Melissa Mansi’s Hornets.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

Branford-Guilford took a 96-89 defeat to Notre Dame-West Haven to drop to 4-2 on the season. Corey Gambardella posted victories in the 200 freestyle (1:48.93) and the 100 backstroke (55.25) to lead the Hornets, who also saw first-place finishes from Eric Weidman in the 200 individual medley (2:08.97), Cole Horton in the 50 freestyle ( 23.84), Kevin Jin for the 100 butterfly (56.68), and David Alstott in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.49). Additionally, the team’s 200 medley relay of Gambardella, Alstott, Jin, and Alek Karosas took first at 1:42.37, while the 200 freestyle relay of Gambardella, Jin, Horton, and Thomas Shao swam a 1:33.95 for first place.
