Branford senior Tristyn Wooster signed his National Letter of Intent this week to play lacrosse for the Arizona State University (ASU) Sun Devils in Tempe, Arizona. ASU is an emerging West Coast powerhouse in lacrosse, having made it to the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association National Tournament the last eight years and winning the Southwestern Lacrosse League championship in four of those years. At ASU, Wooster will be studying in the College of Letters and Sciences and pursuing an interdisciplinary degree of business and science.

The sport of lacrosse is exploding across the country and so Wooster took his lacrosse game on the road to get noticed by ASU and many of the other universities that were recruiting him. He attended several lacrosse recruitment showcases, earning spots on the All-Star Teams at events in Greensboro, North Carolina; Tampa, Florida; and The East Coast Invitational in Washington D.C.

Wooster is a captain of the Branford Hornets boys’ lacrosse team and has been playing defense for the high school varsity squad since his sophomore year. The team is coached by Head Coach Jim May, assistant coach Frank Barron, and defense coach Greg Kamedulski. Wooster started playing lacrosse in 6th grade for Branford Youth Lacrosse shortly after moving to Connecticut from St. Louis, Missouri. His Branford youth coach Kevin Meyran actually taught him how to play the game. Since 2014, Wooster has been giving back to the youth lacrosse community by volunteering as a student coach.

Wooster plays for the Hornets in the spring, but in order to make lacrosse a year-round sport, he joined the Connecticut Cardinals club team starting in 2014, playing both summer and fall ball. While with the Cardinals, Wooster played for several coaches, including Barron, Chris Landry of Waterford, Paul Deon from Hand in Madison, and Connor Wells from the Kent School. Thanks to all of his coaches, Wooster advanced his playing abilities to the point of being noticed by top colleges.

Wooster’s proud parents and biggest fans are David and Machelle Wooster of Branford. He is also cheered on by his two sisters in Eden, who is a 2014 Branford High School graduate and now a sophomore at the University of South Florida; and Sutton who is in 8th grade at Walsh Intermediate School in Branford and is also an accomplished lacrosse player.
