HK took a 97-60 loss to Shelton on Jan. 12 and a 95-79 defeat versus North Haven on Jan. 15.

In the Shelton meet, the Cougars were second in the 200 medley relay (Michael Morman, Will Carlson, Jacques Goosen, and Chad Anderegg); third in the 200 free (Allison Murphy); runner-up in the 200 IM (Morman); second in the 50 free (Connor McLaughlin); third for the 100 butterfly (Anderegg); second for the 100 free (McLaughlin); second with the 500 free (Murphy); third in the 200 free relay (Anderegg, Morman, Murphy, and Carlson); second in the 100 backstroke (Morman); second (Carlson) and third (Parker Goodwin) in the 100 breaststroke; and first (Murphy, Anderegg, Carlson, and McLaughlin) and second (Carlson, Goodwin, Jonah Freeman, and Jacques Goosen) in the 400 free.

“Good meet for HK that had the team fighting until the very end for every yard. Jacqeus Goosen showed his diversity by doing the butterfly leg in the medley relay and then going straight into the 200 freestyle,” said Head Coach John MacDonald. “Nate Carlson stepped in at the last second for a hurting team to anchor the 200 freestyle relay.”

Facing North Haven, HK’s performances included second in the 200 medley relay (Morman, Carlson, Evan Stock, and Anderegg); second for the 200 free (Murphy); first (Morman) and third place (Stock) in the 200 IM; first in the 50 free (McLaughlin); first (Stock) and second (Anderegg) in the 100 butterfly; first (McLaughlin) and third (Carlson) in the 100 free; second in the 500 free (Murphy); first in the 200 free relay (Anderegg, Morman, Stock, and McLaughlin); first (Morman) and third (Simon Brown) in the 100 backstroke; second (Carlson) and third (Goodwin) in the 100 breaststroke; and runner-up for the 400 free relay (Murphy, Anderegg, Carlson, and McLaughlin).

“Close meet for HK that was a constant back-and-forth battle with North Haven. Jonah Freeman swam the 200 free for the first time this season in taking fourth. One of the biggest highlights of the meet was Evan Stock and Chad Anderegg taking first and second place, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. This was an impressive feat for Stock as he had been absent from practice for the past three days due to illness,” said MacDonald. “Will Carlson took third in the 100 free with an over-six-second lifetime best of 1:01.24. Simon Brown swam the 100 backstroke for the first time this season and took third at the meet. Parker Goodwin took third in the 100 breaststroke and continues to show his strength in this event.”
