North Branford Volleyball Wins Final Match; Boys’ Cross Country Improves at States


Parker Nadeau helped the North Branford boys’ cross country team finish in 12th place at the Class SS State Championship last weekend.

Volleyball

The Thunderbirds were winners in their last match of the year versus Hyde and finished the season at 3-17.

Prior to the win, North Branford was defeated by Wilcox Tech 3-2 on Oct. 26 with scores of 14-25, 25-17, 25-21, 9-25, 16-14. Nina Robertson led North Branford with nine kills in the match as the team finished with 30 as a whole. Alyssa Mancini scored nine aces, plus Nicole Messore had 15 digs and Taylor O’Neill had 23 assists.

On Oct. 29, North Branford topped Hyde 3-0 (25-5, 25-17, 25-19). O’Neill had a team-best six aces and five assists in the win.

Boys’ Cross Country

North Branford finished in 12th place out of 22 teams in the Class SS State Championship with a total time of 1 hour, 36 minutes, and 48 seconds. Each North Branford runner set a personal record at the meet. Runners for the T-Birds were Michael Madoule (27th, 18:33); Richard Hernandez (54th, 19:19); Isaac Cammarata (63rd, 19:34); Zachary Jamieson (64th, 19:37); Parker Nadeau (72nd, 19:45); Austin Gibilisco (89th, 20:09); and Patrick Fisher (123rd, 21:12).

Field Hockey

North Branford ended its regular season with a 4-1 loss at Branford on Oct. 26 to go 13-3 overall. The T-Birds earned the No. 2 seed in the Shoreline Tournament with a 9-1 conference record, losing the decisive coin flip to Haddam-Killingworth for the top seed. In the loss to Branford, Sydney Hogan had North Branford’s goal that was assisted by Emma Hanson and MacKenzie Kaiser made eight saves in the cage.
