Guilford took part in the SCC Championship on Oct. 22 at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison and finished third out of 19 teams with 105 points. Ben Siciliano led the Indians’ pack by finishing fourth overall (15:50) and he was followed by Finn Davidson (11th, 16:45), Josh Stern (14th, 16:50), Adam Germaine (37th, 17:39), Lukas O’ Callahan (39th, 17:42), Will Smith (64th, 18:24), and Paul Malafronte (75th, 18:50).
Girls’ Cross Country
The Indians came in fourth out of 18 teams for the SCC Championship on Oct. 22 at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison by scoring 121 points. Claire Keanna paced Guilford by coming in seventh in 20:13. She was accompanied by Amy Puchini (12th, 20:32), Evelyn Ferrall (18th, 20:51), Meredith Bloss (32nd, 21:23), Mary Kate Urban (52nd, 22:37), and Alyssa Lent (60th, 22:54).
Girls’ Soccer
The Indians edged Cheshire 2-1 on Oct. 21 to improve to 10-1-2 before a 1-0 shutout of Mercy on Oct. 24.
After limiting Cheshire to one shot on goal in the opening half, Guilford opened up a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Guilford’s offensive pressure paid off when Grace Clancy headed a ball to Andrea Basilicato, who powered through two defenders before knocking home her shot. During the second half, Clancy scored to give the Indians the 2-0 lead, but Guilford lost some composure and possession, allowing Cheshire more opportunities. The Rams were able to score on a kick past Lawrence, who was shielded behind her wall, although the Indians still hung on for the 2-1 win.
“We continue to play a good brand of soccer with good possession and teamwork, especially to begin games. As we work to translate that possession to more pressure on goal, we need to have patience, especially when the ball isn’t getting into the net,” said Head Coach Scott McMahon. “This was a tough game as it was the third year in a row that we played Cheshire on their Senior Night. Getting the win was a great accomplishment and sets us up well for our coming game against Hand [on Monday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. at Hand].”
Field Hockey
The Indians are now 8-6-1 after getting shut out by Hamden 2-0 on Oct. 20 and Lauralton Hall 1-0 on Oct. 23. However, Guilford rebounded on Senior Night with a 3-0 win over Westbrook with goals by seniors Sami Clayton and Ellie Pinchbeck, plus one by sophomore Olivia Clarke. Fifteen seniors were honored in Brooke Misbach, Sami Clayton, Ally Clayton, Kate Dinauer, Morgan DiNoia, Aboli Ghatpande, Becca Hill, Oliiva Merrithew, Abby Miranker, Ellie Pinchbeck, Rosie Riccio, Isabelle Risse, Lily Singleton, as well as managers Anna Cole and Alex Rose.
