09/03/2015 12:00 AMThe Guilford Summer Basketball League concluded its campaign on Aug. 26. The championship game was between Shoreline Orthopedics and RTA and Shoreline Orthopedics won out in a great matchup, 77-71.
Shoreline won the tip and scored first. It held the lead for the first eight minutes, hitting just about every shot it took. RTA was able to catch up with a few good defensive plays and offensive rebounds for second-chance points and led by two at halftime. Play resumed with the ball in RTA’s possession and it was back and forth with Shoreline hitting countless three point shots during the second half, although RTA answered those shots with its own drives to the basket. Just about halfway through the half, RTA had a player go down as a result of an injury, leaving it with no subs for the remaining seven minutes. Even with the injury, the game stayed close until the closing minutes, when RTA was forced to foul and Shoreline made its free throws to seal the victory.
