Madison’s 12-U Little League softball All-Star Tigers won the District 9 championship this summer, making them back-to-back District 9 champions. The team was led by great defense from Summer Adams, Gina Ciotti, Emily Casagrande, Jess Murphy, and Grace Hartmann; phenomenal pitching by Lauren Daly, Abby Cody and Christina Coric; and timely hitting from Abby Noniewicz, Dara McShane, Sydney Padula, and Caroline O’Connor.

“In the beginning, the coaching staff was a little worried—the practices were rough,” said Coach Buddy Hartmann. “But those girls sure are gamers. Our defense was superb. Our outfielders caught everything hit at them and our infielders made every play.”

The District 9 Tournament was played in Clinton and, to win, the Tigers defeated their nemesis Middletown and also twice beat their archrival Coginchaug.

“The team’s ability to master basic skills and make quick and accurate plays—something that gives a team a huge advantage when done well—was impressive,” said Coach Tom Noniewicz.

For the State Divisional Championship Tournament, played in East Hartford, the Tigers beat Glastonbury twice and advanced to the championship round. Despite a phenomenal effort, the Tigers lost the championship game 3-1 to a very good Waterford squad.

“Coaching a group of kids that like being around one another and have fun together is a coach’s dream. When you feel good, you play good and this team made everyone feel good. They played so well, they made Tom, Buddy, and I look like good coaches,” said Head Coach Mike Ciotti. “The enthusiasm at the end of the last game was a testament to how hard these girls worked and how much they enjoy the game. Although many of the girls have reached the maximum Little League age, they continue to play with their school and travel teams.”
