McShane Wins Pole Vault for Hand Boys’ Track at Sectionals; Girls’ Golf Goes to 13-0


Devon McShane earned top honors for the pole vault at the SCC East Sectional Championship on May 19 at Amity as Hand boys’ outdoor track finished sixth as a group.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Tigers finished sixth with 63.5 points in the SCC East Sectional Championship on May 19 at Amity.

Devon McShane captured the pole vault title with a height of 13 feet to lead Hand. Tommy Wilson was runner-up in the 100 meter dash (11.11, only 0.18 of a second off the winning pace) and 200 (22.59). Adam Taylor came in third for the 800 (2:03.13), fourth for the 3,200 went to Colin Roth (9:59.73), Kyle Boling raced to sixth for the 110 hurdles (16.45); and the 4x800 relay of Ryan Johnson, Chris Parker, Conner Roth, and Garrett Noonan saw fifth (8:34.81). Boling reached 11 feet for fourth for the pole vault and Myles Mantzaris came in sixth with the javelin (127-8).

Girls’ Outdoor Track

Hand was sixth with 62 points in the SCC East Sectional Championship on May 19 at Amity.

Sam Schaefer took third in the 100 (12.84) and second with the 200 (26.21), Molly Citrin paced to third for the 400 (1:01.43), Megan Phillips was runner-up in the 800 (2:28.19), Gabby Egidio came in fifth (2:29.88) for that same event, and Madeline Gould was third for the 3,200 (12:27.31). Also, the 4x100 relay of Cayman Brown, Gabby Harmon, Citrin, and Schaefer was third (51.74); the 4x800 variety of Chloe Moulin, Egidio, Emily Baker, and Philips took fifth (10:35.60); Jane Boudreau leaped to fifth in the high jump (4-6), Erin Naclerio came in sixth for the pole vault (7-6), and Heather Huminski found fifth with the triple jump (32-6).

Girls’ Golf

Hand moved to 13-0 with a pair of wins against East Lyme (220-268) on May 18 and Cheshire (181-218) the following day.

Versus East Lyme, Erin Schroeder and Emma Boey shared medalist honors with 53s. Rounding out the scoring was Morgan Werth and Katie McKeon (each with rounds of 57) and Emily Schroeder (58).

Facing Cheshire, Gabby Martin medaled with a 41 for her round. Joining her were Boey (45), Erin Schroeder (46), Werth (49), and McKeon (59).
