“Ben Siciliano pulled a hard triple race day and did very well in the 800, 1,600, and 3200. Young guys like Will Smith had a great day winning multiple events as a freshman,” said Head Coach Chris Skaggs. “John Reagle and Nash Singleton helped solidify the first couple wins on the season. They lead by example and compete at a high level in multiple events. It’s a great building block to move forward in the season on a positive note. Our team has become more well rounded, with points coming from field events, hurdles, and both sprint and distance events. It’s great to see a lot of points coming from so many different athletes.”

Girls’ Tennis

On April 22, the Indians picked up their first win of the spring by a 6-1 final against Foran before sweeping a home doubleheader on April 23 against Mercy (4-3) and Hamden (5-2) to move to 3-2 overall.

Against Mercy, Etter (6-0, 6-1), Roth (6-0, 6-0), Montenegro and Claire Dinauer (6-2, 6-1), and Kate Dinauer and Stofflet (6-3, 6-7, 7-5) all prevailed. “It was a very long afternoon and the team really stuck together and supported each other,” said Head Coach Chris Marra. “[On the Mercy match] The big match was at second doubles. Kate Dinauer and Samantha Stofflet stepped up big time and came away with a great win. [Against Hamden] Emily Etter played an amazing match. She may have been a little emotionally spent by the time 8:30 p.m. rolled around, but she gave it her all.”

Golf

The Indians improved to 2-1 with wins over North Haven (183-220 at Wallingford Country Club on April 21) and edging out Amity two days later by a 171-172 final.

Against North Haven, Ethan Bedell and Stephen Thibault each shot 44s. Facing Amity, Thibault was match medalist with a 40.

“The team is starting to gel and people are finding their swing. Eventually the weather will begin to cooperate and the guys will get comfortable,” said Head Coach Dave Esteban. “I am anticipating some low scores in the coming weeks and people challenging their teammates to be one of the four competing golfers.”
