HK Boys' Swim Competes in First SCC Championship; Gymnastics Represents at State Open


Boys' Swimming and Diving

In its first appearance at the meet, Haddam-Killingworth finished 13th with 298.5 points at the SCC Championship on March 6 at Southern Connecticut State University. The 200 medley relay quartet of Jake Torello, Conor Champagne, Garrett Mazziotti, and Connor McLaughlin swam to eighth (1:48.57); Mazziotti was fourth in the 100 butterfly (56.65) and sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:50.53); and Champagne tied for seventh with the 50 free (23.58). HK had another eighth-place showing in a relay in the 200 free group of Elliot Lynskey, McLaughlin, Mazziotti, and Champagne (1:35.87) while Torello paced to 17th in the 100 backstroke (1:02.83) and, in the 100 breaststroke, Champagne was 12th (1:07.73). Also, the 400 free relay of Michael Morman, Sam Palmer, Evan Stock, and Torello raced to 13th (3:57.31).

Gymnastics

HK had some representation at the State Open on March 7 at New Milford. Michelle DeFilippo tied for 18th for the vault (8.975) while she was also 18th on bars (8.625). Karen DeFilippo finished tied for 38th on the floor (8.7) and tied for 37th on bars (7.7).

Wrestling

At the New England Championship on March 6 and 7, Paul LaRosa represented the Cougars in the 182-pound weight class and went 0-2 for the draw.

Cheerleading

The Cougars finished 16th with 91.3 points at the Class S State Championship on March 6 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Boys' Basketball

HK went 10-10 for the regular season and drew the No. 30 seed for the Class S State Tournament. The Cougars opened with first round play at No. 3 Amistad (18-2) on March 10. A victory there puts the Cougars in the second round at No. 14 Holy Cross (12-8) or No. 19 Somers (11-9) on Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m.

Girls' Basketball

The Cougars were the No. 31 seed in the Class M State Tournament and took a 67-40 first round loss at No. 2 Holy Cross (20-1) on March 4 to end the season at 8-14 overall.
