Hand finished the regular season at 12-8 with victories over Cross on Feb. 23 by a 72-52 final and then 66-36 against Law the following night. The 7th-seeded Tigers then lost in the first round of the SCC Tournament 74-69 to No. 10 Cheshire on Feb. 26.

Against Cross, Pat Kerins scored 19 points while Jack Driscoll tallied 17 and Dante Egidio added 10. Facing Law, Jeff Allen led the Tigers' scoring attack with 16 points.

In Hand's postseason opener, the opening quarter saw a lot of offense in which both teams bent, but neither broke. Allen (23 points) and Kerins (19) led the way for the Tigers, combining for 17 of the Tigers' 22 points. The defenses then adjusted on both sides, yet Cheshire made the most gains by shutting down Allen in the quarter. Cheshire's Dylan D'Addio found the holes necessary in the Tigers' zone defense, scoring eight of his 12 points in the quarter in giving Cheshire five-point lead at the break (36-31).

Neither team was able to create any separation throughout the third as both teams demonstrated strong offenses by combining for 40 points in the period. Hand made the first move in the second half with a 15-7 run as a Dante Egidio three-point play tied the game with about six minutes to play. Cheshire responded with a run of its own by taking their largest lead of the night at 67-56 with less than four minutes to play. Hand's offense ultimately dominated the final three minutes of the game. A Kerins' three cut the lead to one with 40 seconds remaining, but that was as close as the Tigers got with Cheshire making its free throws to hold off the Tigers. Hand had one last shot to tie with 20 seconds remaining down three, but Cheshire broke up the play. Driscoll added 10 points on the evening.

The Tigers next take the court in the Class L State Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, March 10.
