Boys' Hockey Wraps Up Spot in States


Matt Clifford scored the first of two third period goals for Guilford boys' ice hockey in its 5-5 draw with Cheshire at home on Feb. 26 after the Indians had clinched a states bid two days earlier against Stamford.

The Guilford boys' ice hockey squad defeated Stamford 7-2 on Feb. 24 at home to give the Indians their eighth victory and a state tournament bid. Guilford then tied Cheshire 5-5 two days later to sit with a final regular season mark of 9-10-1 after prevailing over Milford 7-3 on Feb. 28.

Versus Cheshire, Jack Petrick scored twice while Ryan Brand notched a goal unassisted. Down 5-3 in the third, Matt Clifford and Chris Cafiero evened the score for the home squad. Assisting on the night were Matt Clifford, Petrick (each twice), Kevin Gaudio, Cafiero, and Rick Sandella. The Rams outshot the Indians 29-25 with Kyle Dwyer stopping 24 shots.
