HK's Garrelts Grabs 3,200 State Crown; Girls' Hoops, Boys' Swimming Prevail

Boys' Indoor Track

Haddam-Killingworth finished fourth with 31 points at the Class S State Championship on Feb. 12 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. Cameron Garrelts took the 3,200 title in a time of 9:54.51.

"I was pleased with my race and my performance on the day. Since it was my third race of the day, I was unsure going into it how I would feel after running a hard 4x800 relay and 1,600," said Garrelts. "I wasn't even sure if I was going to run it until after the 1,600 because of the two previous hard races. It feels great to go All-State again, though, and I'm thankful for the opportunities I've had to do so."

Other point-earning performances included David Baird in the 1,000 (6th, 2:48.90); Garrelts for the 1,600 (3rd, 4:36.69); Pat Fitzgibbons right beside Garrelts in the 3,200 (3rd, 10:19.08); plus the 4x800 relay team of Baird, Fitzgibbons, Ben Rakowski, and Garrelts (2nd, 8:26.46).
