On Jan. 13, the Cougars hosted Old Lyme and fell behind by as many as eight points in the third quarter before dropping a 54-52 decision. Three days later, HK knocked off Valley Regional 40-37 to earn a mark of 5-7 on the season.

Versus Old Lyme, a spirited rally had HK leading 46-40 midway through the fourth quarter, but late game miscues cost the Cougars the game as they fell by two. Halie Serbent led the Cougars with 22 points, six rebounds, and three assists; Brinley Anderson finished with nine points, seven assists, and four steals; plus Caroline Fortuna netted eight points. Tara Murphy grabbed eight boards to go along with five points and Meghan O'Brien (4 points), Ana Bruder (2 points), and Daijah Rich (2 points) rounded out the HK scoring.

The Cougars then traveled to Valley Regional to take on the Warriors and HK battled to an eight-point halftime advantage (21-13). After the Cougars built the lead to double digits in the third, Valley went on a 12-0 run to go up 27-26 going into the final stanza. HK didn't back down, however, as Serbent poured in 10 points in the final period to lead the visitors to a hard-fought victory. Serbent finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while Fortuna chipped in with 11 points and two assists; Anderson had 11 points, five steals, and 4 assists; and O'Brien came off the bench to collect six boards to go along with three points. Murphy netted a basket and three rebounds before leaving the game in the first half due to injury.
