Mendonca Honored for Stellar Showing with Valley Shore YMCA

Two Valley Shore YMCA Marlins swimmers in 12-year-old Kayla Mendonca of Madison (left) and Isaac Waide, age 17, of East Haddam were honored at the annual Connecticut Swimming Awards Banquet held at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville on Nov. 8. These swimmers were recognized for their outstanding performance during the 2013 and 2014 seasons and for achieving the top 16 fastest times in Connecticut. The state's top times were compiled from all U.S. swim meets during the 2013-'14 short and long course seasons.

The Valley Shore YMCA Marlins swim team is one of the top U.S. swimming competitive age group programs in the region. A high percentage of its swimmers compete at higher levels of competition. The team is composed of swimmers ranging in age from 6 to 18. This swim program is designed to be rewarding for all levels of swimmers-from those new to swimming to swimmers who consistently place at the top of their age groups in competitive swimming. The program helps athletes develop to their highest level of swimming and personal achievement. Along with learning competitive swimming skills, swimmers learn self-discipline, respect, loyalty, good sportsmanship, and have fun. For more information, visit vsymca.org.
