Football

The Cougars traveled to division opponent Cromwell on Nov. 14 and suffered a 26-14 loss to bring their mark to 4-6 and 3-5 in the Pequot Sassacus

Cromwell (6-4, 4-4) scored three touchdowns on runs of 65, 16, and 10 yards. Alex Segaline threw two touchdown passes, including a 20-yarder to Noah Vinci and another to Hunter Czaja from five yards out for HK.

The game was tied 7-7 at halftime as the Cougars were able to score on a touchdown pass to Vinci with just 45 seconds remaining in the second quarter. The second half featured the Panthers' three touchdown runs, including the final TD with 2:13 remaining to seal the game.

"Robert Mooney, Ben Steinhilper, and Carter Steinhilper played outstanding games on defense," said Head Coach Mike Baklik. "We made too many mistakes and allowed several big plays from Cromwell tonight and that's what cost us the ballgame. I liked the way the boys kept fighting, even when they were down by two scores, and they were able to make it close with a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late."

HK wraps up the season with its annual Thanksgiving Eve battle against Valley Regional/Old Lyme (10-0, 8-0) in Deep River on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
