The Shoreline champion Cougars (now 24-1 overall) next battled another conference adversary in No. 21 Coginchaug (13-9) in the semifinals on Nov. 12 and a win there would put the Cougars in the final on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. in Glastonbury versus either No. 2 Seymour (22-1) or No. 3 Morgan (23-2).

Boys' Soccer

HK entered the Class S State Tournament seeded 6th and edged 27th-ranked Immaculate 1-0 in the first round on Nov. 3 at home. In the second round two days later versus No. 22 East Granby, the Cougars earned another 1-0 victory. Traveling to No. 3 Old Lyme in the quarterfinals on Nov. 7, HK scored the 2-1 road upset.

The Cougars (9-4-4) next took on No. 7 East Hampton (11-4-2) in a semifinal earlier this week and a triumph there would bring HK into the final on Saturday, Nov. 15 versus either No. 1 Somers (14-2-2) or No.4 Cromwell (14-3-1).

Football

HK hosted Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby on Nov. 7 and suffered a 34-20 loss to move its mark to 4-5 following the Cougars' four-game winning streak.

Alex Segaline threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Czaja while Josh Breiling and Noah Vinci rushed for the Cougars' other two scores. Czaja extended his touchdown catch total for the season to 10 with the 49-yard bomb from Segaline.

Windsor Locks took a 20-6 lead by the end of the first quarter behind two big touchdown runs by. HK made a game of it in the second half, holding the visiting Raiders to just six points, but could not overcome the early deficit.

"We gave up the big plays tonight and that was the difference," said Head Coach Mike Baklik. "I was pleased with the way the team fought back, though, as evidenced by the kids' defensive effort in the second half. They could have given up early, but they never did."

The Cougars next travel to Cromwell (5-4) on Friday, Nov. 14 for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

Field Hockey

HK (10-6-0-2) was 10th in the Class S State Tournament and scored a 2-1 road win at No. 7 Old Saybrook in the first round on Nov. 4. For the quarterfinals at No. 2 Stonington on Nov. 6, the Cougars fell 4-1 to conclude the campaign.
