The Warriors' volleyball squad managed a 3-0 victory over Hyde early last week before falling to Shoreline top contenders Morgan and HK.

"Our team serving percentage was up this match to 94 percent," said Coach Kathy Scott.

Valley faced one of the Shoreline's best in Morgan on Oct. 8 and lost 3-0 for the second time this season (25-9, 25-17, 25-18). Zuppe had two aces and was 10-for-11 in serving with nine receptions and a dig; Alvarado had 12 receptions, six digs, two kills; McLaughlin had two kills and a block assist; Tiezzi went 10-for-11 in serving with an ace, 13 receptions, and seven digs; Harger had three digs, two kills, and a block assist; Sopneski had three aces, five digs, a kill, and 12 assists; Urquhart had 25 assists and 10 digs; Pace had five kills and a block; and Sadie Swap had six kills and four receptions.

In the Warriors' 3-0 loss to HK on Oct. 10 in which they lost 25-11, 25-13, 25-16, Zuppe had an ace, six receptions, and four digs; Alvarado had 10 receptions, two digs, and a kill; McLaughlin had an ace, a block, and two kills; Tiezzi had 12 receptions, went 7-for-7 in serving with three digs; Harger had nine receptions with three digs and two kills; Sopneski had two aces, two digs, a kill, and 12 assists; Urquhart had seven receptions; Swap had three receptions with five kills; and Cullina had two digs with two kills.

"We have headed into the second part of our season, starting with the league leaders HK [No. 1] and Morgan [2]. Overall, we served both of these teams stronger than before picking up 10 aces, but with the stronger serve, we sacrificed some of our accuracy," said Scott. "In both of these matches, there were some hard-fought rallies and exciting play, but we weren't able to stay in system enough because of their strong hitting. We do have depth so, with injuries or when we need to change the chemistry on the court, we can substitute players to create the change we need and we are fortunate in that regard."
